Weather
San Diego is one of a handful of worldwide locations that can boast of this beautiful Mediterranean climate. It is purported to be the most temperate climate there is. We have sun about 320 days a year, and our temperatures usually range in the 60- to 80-degree range. Summer days can be warm, but ocean breezes will cool us. (I run my air conditioning about 1 or 2 days in the summer. My house never gets hot enough to close the windows and turn on the air.) The winter sun warms us by day, and winter nights are cooler when the sun goes down.
Cultural Events
San Diego has such a diverse population and such fabulous cultural activities. San Diego is 25 miles from Rancho Santa Fe, and about 25 minutes away via freeway.
Some of my favorite venues include:- La Jolla Playhouse
- Old Globe Theatre
- San Diego Symphony at Symphony Hall downtown
- The Civic Center, home of San Diego Opera and other attractions
- Newly renovated Balboa Theatre downtown
- La Jolla Music Society with concerts around San Diego
- Escondido Center for the Performing Arts
- San Diego Summer Pops Concerts on the Bay
- Humphries by the Bay for summer concerts
- And many, many more theatres and activities to choose from.
We have several renowned universities and colleges, a very strong scientific community, and a diverse population, so we have an incredible intellectual dessert tray to choose from in our beautiful San Diego County.
Things To Do Close To Home
Because of our beautiful weather, people are out doors a lot.
How about these outdoor activities:
- San Diego Zoo
- San Diego Wild Animal Park
- Quail Botanical Gardens
- Walk on the (any) beach from Carlsbad Beach to Torrey Pines Beach
- Hike through Torrey Pines Reserve one of my favorite training sites when I was training for the 3-Day Breast Cancer 60-mile walk. Its a wonderful place to recharge your batteries and get close to nature while working up a sweat (err, glow) going up that hill from the parking lot. You can even see dolphins and an occasional whale from one of the lookout points. Good for the soul.
- UCSD Aquarium do you dare to touch one of those sea potatoes?! Yikes! Icky!
- Carlsbad Flower Fields during Spring blooming season off the 5 Freeway and Palomar Airport Road.
- For the past about 8 years, I have attended the UCSD Extension Master Gardeners 1-day Spring Classes. I have learned much about my roses, about composting, mulching, water-wise plants, native plants, and more. This year I am taking 2 classes about succulents trying to be water-wise and fire-safe after the fires of October, 2007.
