Volunteer Work
My personal philosophy has always been to give back. Give back to my community, to my neighbors in need, and to my country. This is where I feel the most gratification. It’s not about ego, it’s about sharing what gifts or talents I have for the betterment of others.
Las Duenas Auxiliary of Children’s Home Society – member and board member for 10 years. For 7 years we put on a 1-day fund-raising golf tournament. We raised about $150,000 each year for the 1 day event! This required months and months of planning and preparation, but it was so satisfying that every year, we would jump right back in and start planning for the next one!
Rancho Santa Fe Women’s Fund which is part of the RSF Foundation. I have made a 5-year financial commitment to the group. We award grants to worthy 501(c)3 organizations. This year we are primarily focusing on women, at-risk children and foster children. In our first 3 years we have awarded a total of $495,000 in grants. I am so proud to be a part of this worthy endeavor.
Volunteer Precinct Inspector for the Registrar of Voters in Rancho Santa Fe. I have been doing this job since 1991. It is my way of giving back to my country. I run a precinct and am responsible for 4 people under me. I train them and we work a tight ship servicing the voters – and always with a smile. Each year the requirements are more stringent, with computerized machines, attending classes and training my clerks. We all put in a 16-hour day on voting day.
Past President, San Diego Chapter of Women’s Council of Realtors – I held this position for 2 terms. I traveled to 7 state and national business meetings each year. It was exhilarating, and very challenging. Public speaking and running a meeting are a breeze after that experience!
I also have favorite charities I focus on. Heifer International gives me great satisfaction to contribute to.
